This page covers the process of buying Ark in-depth. If you are interested in learning about Ark Wallets, check our detailed Ark wallets page.

Step 1: Aquire Bitcoin or Ethereum

There are several exchanges that you can buy Bitcoin and Ethereum on.

Ark can only be purchased with Ethereum and Bitcoin, so in order to obtain it, we must buy Bitcoin or Ethereum, and then send it to an exchange where Ark is sold.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Exchanges

Coinbase is a very beginner friendly US based exchange, that sells cryptocurrency to most countries and all US states. Expect a 1.49% fee on bank transfer purchases, and a 3.99% fee for credit and debit purchases.

Coinmama is another option that focuses on credit and debit card purchases. Coinmama is great because they have higher debit and credit card purchasing limits than Coinbase, as well as instant delivery. Coinmama’s fees are around 5.5%.

LocalBitcoins is a person to person exchange, meaning that anyone can use it. There are no limits, or verification needed. It uses escrow to make sure that both parties recieve payment.

Gemini is another US based exchange, that allows its users to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum via bank transfers, credit cards, and debit cards.

Bitpanda is an exchange that also focuses on credit and debit card purchases. Their fees are between 3%-4%, and only sells Bitcoin and Ethereum to European countries.

Expect around 10% returns yearly from staking Ark!

How do I Mine Ark?

Ark can not be mined, as it uses a delegated proof of stake system. Learn how to stake your Ark in the section below to earn free Ark!

How to get FREE Ark

Unlike most cryptocurrencies, ARK has no mining system. They have a staking system. In this system, you vote for a delegate, with only 51 of them being active. These delegates confirm transactions to help and are rewarded 2 ARK per block, plus other fees. These fees include transaction fees, voting fees, delegate registraion fees and lastly 2nd Passphrase registration fees.

At the time of this writing, transactions fees are .1 ARK, delegate registraion is 25 ARK, 2nd Passphrase registration is 5 ARK, and voting and unvoting fees are 1 ARK. The ARK team plans to lower these in the future. When voting for a delegate, your vote is worth a proportional amount to the ark you hold. The more ark you stake with, the more you receive from your delegate!

I choose to stake with Jarunik as he has good rewards, and is active in the ARK Reddit Community.

If you would like to calculate how much ARK you would earn from staking, try this spreadsheet. Enter your amount of ark in the top box and it will show an estimate return for each delegate. There are other benefits such as payout so make sure to choose carefully. Read more about forging here.
