This page will explain the process of buying Augur with annotated pictures and steps. If you are interested in your options for storing the currency, check out our guide on Augur wallets, where you will find setup guides and more.
Step 1: Aquire Bitcoin or Ethereum
There are several exchanges that you can buy Bitcoin and Ethereum on.
Augur can only be purchased with Ethereum and Bitcoin, so in order to obtain it, we need to first buy Bitcoin or Ethereum, and then send it to an exchange like Bittrex where Augur is sold
Bitcoin and Ethereum Exchanges
Coinbase is a very beginner friendly US based exchange, that sells cryptocurrency to most countries and all US states. Expect a 1.49% fee on bank transfer purchases, and a 3.99% fee for credit and debit purchases.
Coinmama is another option that focuses on credit and debit card purchases. Coinmama is great because they have higher debit and credit card purchasing limits than Coinbase, as well as instant delivery. Coinmama’s fees are around 5.5%.
LocalBitcoins is a person to person exchange, meaning that anyone can use it. There are no limits, or verification needed. It uses escrow to make sure that both parties recieve payment.
Gemini is another US based exchange, that allows its users to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum via bank transfers, credit cards, and debit cards.
Bitpanda is an exchange that also focuses on credit and debit card purchases. Their fees are between 3%-4%, and only sells Bitcoin and Ethereum to European countries.

There is no way to buy Augur directly with fiat currency, so that is wht we must buy Bitcoin or Ethereum first, and then send it to an exchange where Augur is sold.
In order to send our Bitcoin or Ethereum to Bittrex, you will need locate your Bittrex deposit address.
This can be found on Bittrex by going to the navigation bar, clicking wallets and locating the currency you are trying to deposit. This example will use Bitcoin, but Ethereum is another option.
After you locate the cryptocurrency on the deposits page, click the + sign to reveal your deposit address.
Now that we have our deposit address, we will need to send it from Coinbase. Click the send tab as seen below, and copy and paste it into the recipient box. Click confirm and wait for your currency to arrive to Bittrex!
Buy some Augur!
After your cryptocurrency arrives, you will have a balance to purchase Augur with. As stated earlier Augur is traded on Ethereum and Bitcoin pairs, so head to corresponding page depending on what coin you purchased initially.
To put in an order on Bittrex, you will need to go to the blue section. In this case, we are buying Augur, so we will enter the amount we want to buy and the price for each Augur. To get a good idea of a price, you can use the price chart that I have highlighted in red, or the current order book which I have highlighted in green.
In the order book, you will notice two sections for bids and asks. At the top of the bid section, you will see someone buying for .00003143 BTC per coin. This is the most someone is currently willing to pay for each coin. In the ask section, we see someone trying to sell for .00003150 per coin.
If we want our order to get filled quickly, we can set our buy price to the highest bid (.00003143), or the current ask (.00003150). If you set your bid it lower, it may not process immediately, but it will allow you to get more Augur for your money.
Please note that the prices explained above are specific to this example, so check the order book to decide the price YOU should pay.
